Organizing

Since the founding of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1891, one of the basic tenets has been that if you work in the electrical industry, you belong in the IBEW and are entitled to the decent standard of living that membership entails.

Local 219 and surrounding Locals have been organizing heavily for the past several years and have helped numerous electricians attain better wages and benefits.  If you are an electrician and are interested in learning about the wages, health plans, pension plans, training and other benefits of membership, please contact us at any time.  Learning more about the IBEW won't obligate you to anything and all inquiries are kept completely confidential.

If you are doing electrical work on a state or federally funded project and are not receiving the prevailing wage, you may be being underpaid, by law.  If you need more information on prevailing wages or you believe you are not being paid properly, contact either Local 219 at 906-779-1505 or the Upper Peninsula Construction Council at 1-800-628-7570 for assistance.

If you have considered joining the IBEW, but are unsure because of different rhetoric or rumors you may have heard, consider this: nearly half of our total membership are electricians who once worked non-union and have now joined our ranks!  If you know one of these people, ask them how it has improved their career. If you would like to talk to an electrician who has joined, but don't know anyone, give us a call and we will provide you with names and phone numbers of some people in your area.

Get the facts!  If you are like most people, it will be the best move you ever make.
